Between The Lightening and The Thunder

By:- Ranjeeta Nath Ghai

Between the lightning and the thunder
A sense of uneasy anticipation,
Dark clouds,
Pregnant with rain,
Igniting the skies,
With a flash of lightening,
Caught unaware,
As a storm crashes down upon us.

I pause,
And begin to count off the seconds,
To see how far away
The lightening would strike was from where,
We were standing.
Conscious of our finite vulnerability,
In face off with nature.

There was something magical,
About that in-between moment,
Aware that something
Is coming our way that could hurt us,
But not knowing exactly
When that will be….
Only that it is coming.

The rolling, booming, thundering sounds,
Sizzle and crackle of lightning,
Terrifying moments,
Tearing my world to shreds,
Times of trouble will inevitably come our way.
Trials have a way of confronting,
Building upon the horizon of our lives.

Between the lightning and the thunder,
The test will be upon
What it is that I lean on,
To give me strength,
Other than God,
Getting to the end of all the light I know,
It’s time to step into the darkness of the unknown.

Between the lightning and the thunder,
I’ll kneel in a quiet place,
With all, I’ve got,
Holding, consoling my loved ones,
And trust Him to walk with me through it,
Either I’ll have something solid to stand on,
Or I’ll be taught how to fly.
