He shook me and asked, what bothered me at night?
I told him I was haunted by nightmares.
Awake in a dream within a nightmare..
Wrestling with fears: Twisting and turning,
Dreams: the safest place; it’s supposed to be,
But that’s the place where the devil
Tends to attack me the most,
Comforting warmth and sleepy slumber
Disturbed by horrific fears,
Voiceless screams: caught beneath my throat.
Silent voiceless screaming,
I scream so loud; but none can hear,
The haunted emptiness,
Devil threatening to take my kids away,
Frozen in fright, steps fall near.
The morphing shadows of black,
Swirling in terrifying scenes, all real and vivid as it seems to be,
In fear I try to escape,
To a place without dreams…
Now listlessly awake I lay
Tired: relieved; but unable to rest,
Sleeplessly caught in the sway,
Too far gone, drifting in grey.
One more prayer, one more look,
Yes, dreams do come true…!
Dreams are not just happiness and wonder,
They’re also our darkest fears…
But what no one ever tells you,
Is that nightmares are dreams too.
