The Winds of Change

The little Angel
Who clutched your forefinger
While crossing the road
Now goes grocery shopping
On her own.

Your adorable little monkey
Whose voice was once
Soft and musical
Has now a deep resonance
A rich baritone.

A mute spectator
Like a lone wolf sniffing the air
I can feel it in my bones…
The winds of change are here to stay.

Daughter uses your makeup
And fits in your clothes
Son can fit in
Your husband shoes
And your wardrobe is no more your own.

Kids giving their opinions
Raised voices; sometimes arguing,
No more mute submissions
Friends; data package; passwords; cell phones,
Taking precedence over family outings.

A mute spectator
Like a lone wolf sniffing the air
I can feel it in my bones…
The winds of change are here to stay.

Once raven hair
Now sprinkled with grey
Once supple body that bore two kids
Now has creaking joints and backaches
Even the driving licence to be renewed every five years.

Grandparents; now departed souls
Parents slowly getting old
Those broad shoulders that weathered all storms; now bent
The hands that once firmly enveloped mine
Now shrivelled; shrunk and unsteady.

A mute spectator
Like a lone wolf sniffing the air
I can feel it in my bones…
The winds of change are here to stay.
