Getting up to morning chorus of birds,
Enjoying a sunny afternoon.
Escaping the world through sound sleep,
With no nightmares to bother.
Cuddled amongst the sheets.
Rather than lay solitary,
On a cold stone floor in a bunker.
Nonstop water in your taps,
Carpet beneath your shoes.
Hand creams made with Shea butter,
A record collection, fancy watches, ermine fur.
Expensive cigars; fine scotch
Luxury air conditioned cars, no uncertainty of death.
With no guarantee of life,
These daily luxuries come at a price.
Honesty is a luxury
That many people would not buy.
That’s why you’re still here,
Because most believe the lie.
A lie fed by our governments and bureaucracy
The powers that be; The corridors of power.
It’s time to count your blessings,
End red tapism; unnecessary etiquette and protocol.
The tanks; vast dense jungle,
Fighter jets; the warships; or the glaciers.
Two years with their families, then off to war zone,
Is the only luxury a soldier can afford.
Yet, Our men at the border,
Are paying a very heavy price; their lives…!!!
