Living in the Age of Blasted Hopes

Varied splendor
Of human skill.
Ever rising pyramids
Of human expectations.
Commentators extolling
The virtues of the players.

Between moments of singing with the praise singers
Victory and brutal defeats
Men; women tearing at themselves
Pushing their limits
Lies…Glory, Exhilaration;
Doomed ambitions; shattered dreams.

With last vestiges of hope
Within the confines of the stadium
I stand confused
Suppressing my disappointment
Whether to laud the efforts of the athletes*
Or rue at their failures.

*athletes- Indian athletes and their performance at Rio Olympics
