When I turn 70 and old,
Frosted hair and wrinkled skin,
When age spots tarnish my complexion,
Will you love me still?
When I can no longer keep pace your longer steps,
My painful knees forcing me to walk slow,
When every time I get left behind,
Will you wait for me still?
When I’ll be cold on winter nights
Even with your body close to mine,
When you’ll reach out to touch my freezing hands,
Will you wrap your arms around me still?
When I’m unable to tell you or show you I care,
And am unreasonably demanding,
When I’ll be my worst cranky self,
Will you be patient and tolerant with me still?
When our youth would have gone,
And I hear our favorite dance number play,
When your back hurts and steps are unsteady,
Will you dance with me again?
When one day my heart stops pounding,
Breathless, I lie before you in peace,
When I’ll be only a soulless body,
Will you seal the bond again with a word, a caress and a kiss?
When l’ll be reduced only to memories in your heart,
My belongings of no further use,
When you’ll be alone; with kids gone,
Will you then take out time and read my musings?
