A Shattered Dream

The-Death-of-the-Princess-Tarakanoff

 By:- rANJEETA nATH gHAI

Trembling and bewildered,
Standing bravely in the middle of a crisis,
Heart remaining the same as it is,
She acts…
Her woes,
Obviously masked.

***

Those blank expressions,
Her scars she’s hidden after the incident.
No one knows,
She’s dying inside.
No one knows,
How much is weighing down on her shoulders.

***

I could see,
Something beyond the obvious.
Turmoil;
Underneath the careful blank slate.
Tears she keeps back in her empty eyes,
Quivering lips; through the forged smile.

***

Lives slump over days
Those trivial quarrels;
Never will come back
Forever gone
The long hallway to hope disappears
And disappointment take hold.

***

What isn’t obvious to all, is her tears,
The ones that she lets flood out,
After shutting her bedroom door at night..
Noose and death fill her thoughts.
Hollowness;
Loneliness sets in,
Resting in the intangible.

This poem is dedicated to a dear friend of mine who has lost her minor son to the jaws of death. May God give strength and courage to the parents to bear this loss.
