Salutes & Respect

Not many even of my generation would know this,

45 Yrs ago, in 1971 on a dark wintry evening of 09th December, on the seas off the coast of Diu, an Indian ship captain lit a cigarette, uncorked his favourite whisky, sat on the chair on the deck as he took a sip and drew on the cigarette, as around him his crew jumped to safety

The order to abandon INS Khukri had been given after it was struck by a Pakistani torpedo, and the Captain had personally pushed many of his officers and crew to safety in boats

In the words of those who were there, they saw him sitting on the chair, looking ahead as he drew on the cigarette, as the bow of the ship began to……………

Captain Mahendra Nath Mulla, take the bow of an entire nation.

If it evokes anything in you at all, share this.

Jai Hind.
