A Laughter Lost In an Echo (for my son)

See this house…
The house is empty.
I am sitting by the phone
Marking the hours as they go by
A searching gaze
Waits and watches out for secrets
Hidden from sight
No voice answers my call,
And mute shadows seem to stare back at me
From the roofs and the walls.
The hum of the AC, dog’s breathing
And the cricket’s shrill chirps
Remind me that you are gone.

So many miles separate us…
And vibrant colours now seem to fade away
Caught between empty sheets and the monsters inside my mind
It’s hard to explain how this heart feels
Like laughter lost in an echo
Living in a state of denial, oft there’s a smile that I fake
So many empty seconds I live in a day
That some days there is an ache…
An ache ripples through my soul
Twisting my insides like knife in a raw wound
When and where it starts,
Maybe I’ll never know
Maybe I’ll never know…
