A Tainted Legacy

With tired legs, I began to reach it,
A garden;
Which I hadn’t frequented in a while
Which I knew existed
But now had towers and skyscrapers
Blocking its pristine view.

The world in which we live today
Is made up of concrete blocks
Instead of trees. Raped by humans;
Fighting for her honour, nature weeps silently.
The Man has had his bounty
But now the time has come to stop.

Blossoms bloom no more. No more birds to sing for us.
The sun peaks; bountiful woodlands
Are fast disappearing.
Long gone are the rainy days
With the smell of fresh earth dancing on the breeze.
All I’m left with is auto fumes and a mask.

A hungry traveller;
I protest against man’s avid greed.
Today, I’m scared of the living ghosts
Who treads in the barren valleys and
Crowded concrete streets and towers.
A fire blazes within my heart
Yielding to the unadulterated and enigmatic call of nature.

All I desire is beauty in nature’s bounty
But all I see is man’s folly glorified in the headlines.
