If There Were No Borders

If There Were No Borders

If There Were No Borders

If there were no borders
There would be no armies
No intolerance, no walls and no fences.
People would accept each other freely
Without any religious inhibitions.

If there were no borders…
There would be no red tapism
And no dirty cross-border politics
There would be no martyrs
And fewer orphans and fewer widows.

If there were no borders
There would be no unforgiving sand and sun
And no dance of survival on the killing floor.
No wrinkles and grey hairs caused due to anxiety
And no war veterans.

If there were no borders
There would be no long stressed wait
For your loved ones to return home
There would empty coffins and no bodies
Would be sent home wrapped in the national flag.

If there were no borders
Homes built together
Would be a home that is safe
Full of dreams and happiness
Where laughter and love would reign supreme.

If there were no borders
There would no time of separating of paths
And pacts need not be broken.
The falling leaves would be enough to fertilize the soil
And the blood of the soldiers would not stain the earth

Borders are a source of constant anguish
Dividing. Separating. Segregating.
Where while catering to the ambitions of power
Of a few handful leaders, the peace of mankind is destroyed
And harmony is compromised.
