Lighting Up My Heart Just Enough

Lighting Up My Heart Just Enough
Alwar City

Lighting Up My Heart Just Enough

Friendly faces;
Shallow compliments;
Being a part of a city of a million people
Is never easy yet has a charm of its own
There are saints, they’re monsters,
They’re warriors born to fight.
Although diverse,
Yet their hearts beat in time
Some breathe fire some calm the soul
With emotions that are soft and quiet,
Making ears strain…
They make you want to live again.

The crowded markets, congested narrow streets
Smell of street food and sweaty bodies
Teasing and irritating your nostrils.
Having a house on the outskirts of the city
Yet very much a part of it
I have a house visited
Every so often, by simians and
By dinner guests alike
Bringing frowns, smiles and delight.
Lighting up my heart just enough
That I feel lucky
To be a part of it again after a decade and four.

Welcome parties, slurred words,
Full bottles reduced to half
Breaking the stereotypes I feel
Someone different from what I’ll be tomorrow…
My normal sane and cynical self
But for now, I throw away old sorrow,
And enjoy my Now. Too many 40s have amounted
Waiting for half century now
This is a world of glamour,
With people and people all around,
Who talk, laugh and share,
I sometimes feel that solitude is sweeter.

  1. Very beautiful description of Alwar city… have described it in more better way then people long here since 20 years….😊

  2. Excellent as usual mam a true reflection of the times we live in with some real and some not so real friends. Each one contributing in his own way to our memories and lighting up our lives
