Udhna: A Garden of Memories
My memories now come flooding in,
Of games, birthdays and garba,
The warmth of home, that cooking smell;
We all have memories of being fed well.
The hearty meals and freshly baked cakes,
Abundant hugs and kisses,
Alphonso mangoes, piled and stacked; ready to be eaten,
And your insistent desire to spoil us grandchildren.
Times spent in Udhna were often marked,
By love, laughter, and contentment,
Baa: a binding factor, often responsible,
For bringing all four generations together.
As the clock struck 7:50, you choose to pass away,
In the arms of your son, and we lost our most valuable gem,
The pain will ease, or so I’m told,
As I scroll through the photographs, silent and cold.
We couldn’t catch the hands of this clock,
The rhythmic beating of the heart stopped, but the clock ticked by…
An ordinary clock; now, the Reaper of Death,
Didn’t even give us time to say our goodbye.
I remember how we tenderly mocked at you,
Your love for food and different cuisines,
I know it’s for the best; you’re finally free; no more pain,
Today I walked down in my garden of memories.
