‘Victim’ of Your Own Vices

‘Victim’ of Your Own Vices

Work; toil and repeat.
Seeking excellence in all that you do
Your mind forever encased
In a web of thoughts
Trying to clear your head is futile
For every time you try to break free
You get caught in the ‘Maya Jaal’*

Bright moon and shining stars
Radiant sun and clear skies
Watching the glorious morning dew
On blades of grass,
Are still dream of the day when
You’ll be able to say, “I know how to enjoy
My Free time, my Me time.”

But instead, you’re stuck in a system
Where debts lie on the table, pans on the gas stove,
Pills in your bag, and prayer on your tongue.
Every time you attempt to break free
The web of whispered rumination
Tightens its grip.

‘Victim’ of your own vices
You shall always be judged by your efforts,
Your resilience, your hope and your spirit.
